The Albert Lea wrestling team clinched its second straight Big Nine Conference championship on Thursday, and sixth in seven seasons, with a 50-21 win at Rochester John Marshall.

Five wrestlers recorded falls for the Tigers, including 113-pounder Garrett Wangsness, Lucas Hansen (132), Trey Hable (170), Dalton Westerlund (195) and Bryce DeBoer (285). Dustin Samudio notched a tech fall at 182 pounds.

“We wrestled well, got the job done and got that Big Nine championship under our belt,” said Tigers coach Larry Goodnature, who’s team begins the Section 1AAA Tournament on Thursday. “We still have some things to get straightened out, but on Thursday we’ll have the same team we started the year with, so we’re looking forward to the postseason and seeing what we can do.”
