Gerda Kleinschrodt

Funeral services for Gerda Valborg Kleinschrodt, age 87, of Alden will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Silver Lake Lutheran Church. The Rev. Randy Baldwin will officiate. Interment will be at Silver Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Gerda died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at her home.
Gerda Valborg Kleinschrodt was born March 23, 1922, in Oakland to Alfred and Ida (Johnson) Sorensen. She was baptized at Oakland Lutheran Church and confirmed at Lime Creek Lutheran Church. Gerda was united in marriage with George Kleinschrodt on Sept. 27, 1937, in Northwood, Iowa. The couple then lived in Iowa and later moved to a farm south of Albert Lea. In 1946 they moved to a farm three miles east of Emmons and in the mid-1960s the couple moved to Albert Lea. Gerda was a member of Silver Lake Lutheran Church. She loved reading and working in her flower gardens. Gerda enjoyed watching television, two of her favorite shows were “Touched by an Angel” and “The Golden Girls.”
Survivors include her children, Phyllis Rusley, Gail (Glenn) Hardin, Dwight (Linette) Kleinschrodt, Paul (Sue) Kleinschrodt and Nancy Ginter; 13 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Agnes (Dale) Berger; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Kleinschrodt, Elizabeth Larsen and Frieda Jensen.
Gerda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; son, Dennis Kleinschrodt; daughter-in-law, Hazel Kleinschrodt; sons-in-law, Robert Rusley and Robert Ginter; grandson, Kary Kleinschrodt; step-grandson, Chester Watters; sisters, Rhyna Berger, Betty Schwemmler and Hazel Sorensen; brother, Iver Sorensen; sisters-in-law, Anna Fink, Rose Sorensen and Emma Katzung; brothers-in-law, Harry Larsen, Mert Jensen, Eldo Schwemmler, Richard Berger, Fred, Jack, Harold and Herman Kleinschrodt.
