The funeral service for Myrtle “Beano” K. Dahl, of Albert Lea, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, 918 Garfield Ave., Albert Lea. The Rev. Todd Walsh will officiate. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, 2210 East Main Street, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.
Myrtle “Beano” died on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at the Albert Lea Medical Center. She was 80.
She was born on July 14, 1929, in Emmons, the daughter of Harry and Cora (Rasmussen) Emmons. Beano graduated from Emmons High School and then obtained her nursing degree from Naeve School of Nursing. Beano was a nurse at Naeve Hospital for 17 years, many of those years spent taking care of new babies and their mothers.
It was while she was working at Naeve Hospital, that she met a young patient named Alton Dahl. On April 11, 1952, Myrtle and Alton were united in marriage in Emmons. To this union six children were born: Craig, Margie, Ross, Todd, Peter and Amy.
In addition to be a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Beano also was dedicated to her nursing career. She and Alton bought the Albert Lea Intermediate Care Center, where she lovingly cared for patients for more than 27 years before retiring.
She was strong in her faith and a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she had sang in the choir and played organ for several years. She had also been active in the D.O.E.S. She was an avid sports fan, keeping up on all the latest events, especially enjoying attending all the games her family participated in.
Her zest for life and kind compassionate care will be lovingly missed by those who loved her: husband, Alton; children: Craig (Lynn) Dahl of Rochester, New York, Margie (Alan) Sanders of Burnsville, Ross (Kristin) Dahl of Willmar, Todd (Nancy) Dahl of Burnsville, Peter Dahl of Andover, (Chris Dahl of White Bear Lake) and Amy (Jamie) Tufte 0f Ham Lake; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Shelby and Cassidy Dahl, Nathan (fiancé Laurie) Sanders, Courtney and Erik Sanders, Gretchen Dahl, Taylor (Melissa) Dahl and their children Hali and Oliver, Bryce, Graham, T.J., Brandon and Brett Dahl, Aaron and Kolby Dahl, Gavin, Tanner, Riley and Tessa Tufte; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Roger and Arla Dahl, David and Carolyn Schmitz and Jeanine Dahl; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant granddaughter, Lindsey Karine Dahl, (daughter of Ross and Kristin); brother, Richard Emmons; and sisters: Germaine Naas, Harriet Bohks, Ruth Marcus and Nylene Peterson.
Beano bloomed wherever she was planted, and touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
