Orin Wangen

Funeral services for Orin J. Wangen, age 86, of rural Albert Lea, will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Oakland Lutheran Church. The Rev. Bob Berthold will officiate. Burial will be at Oakland Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the Church.
Orin died on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Orin Joseph Wangen was born on Aug. 2, 1923, in Freeborn County, the son of Louis and Ellen (Arett) Wangen. He was baptized and confirmed at Oakland Lutheran Church. Orin attended rural school and farmed all of his life. On June 27, 1948, he was united in marriage to Martha C. Ramsey at East Freeborn Lutheran Church. Orin was a trustee of Oakland Lutheran Church, where he served on the call committee and the building committee. He also served on the Oakland Elevator Board. Orin enjoyed his fishing trips up north, traveling south for a few months during the winter and the times the family spent at Happy Days Resort near Park Rapids. He enjoyed playing cards but was a true farmer who enjoyed working the land as he drove his tractor.
Survivors include his wife, Martha, sons Kenneth and wife Diane, Steve and wife Linda, Donald and wife Connie, Larry and wife Robin, and David and special friend Tiffany. Daughter, Kathryn Jo and husband Dennis Kreuscher; grandchildren Evan and Andrew Wangen, Jeremy and Nicholas Wangen, Rochelle Kilabarda and husband Doug, Brian Julson and wife Sarah, Kayla and Aaron Julson, Jason Kreuscher and wife Joanne, Lucas Kreuscher, Mandy, Casey and Dustin Wangen, and Ashton and Adison Wangen; and eight great-grandchildren. Sisters-in-law Doris Johnson and Janice Knutson and husband Bob, and brother-in-law Gordon and Ramona Ramsey.
Orin was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gladys Nellis.
