Allan M. Breckenridge, age 51, of Albert Lea and formerly of Madelia, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2009, at his parents’ home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Madelia United Methodist Church with the Rev. Debbie King Quale officiating. Visitation is Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia.
Allan was born on July 10, 1957, in Northfield. He graduated from Madelia High School in 1975. He attended technical school in Austin and Albert Lea and worked as a diesel mechanic for his father at Breckenridge garage in Madelia for five years until suffering a back injury. He then returned to technical school for parts merchandising and spent the next 25 years working as a parts salesman for Karl’s CarQuest Auto Parts in Worthington and later in Albert Lea. He retired in the fall of 2008 due to his most recent fight with cancer.
In 1979 Allan was united in marriage to Bev Baldwin. They had two wonderful sons together but were later divorced. Debbra (Eckstein) Wenner was Allan’s companion and soulmate for 16 years until her passing in January of 2007. Allan’s greatest passion was NASCAR racing. He also enjoyed other sports, fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends, and his beloved dog Buster.
Survivors include his parents William and LaVonne Breckenridge of Madelia; sons Nicholas of Albert Lea and Adam of Butterfield; sisters, Jo Breckenridge of Mankato, Linda (Ken) Lombardo of San Jose, Calif., and Karen (Dan) Gronewold of Madelia; granddaughter Paige Breckenridge; several nephews, aunts, cousins, his extended family with Debbra, and his dog “Buster.” Allan was preceded in death by an infant son, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and his soulmate Debbra Wenner.
The family requests memorials be directed to the Albert Lea or Mankato ISJ hospice organizations or a cancer foundation of the donor’s choice in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be sent to www.pilgrimfuneralhome.com.
