Errors cost Albert Lea VFW baseball in loss

ALBERT LEA— The Rochester John Marshall Rockets scored six runs over the final three innings and took advantage of numerous errors by the Albert Lea VFW baseball team to defeat Albert Lea 8-3 Wednesday at Hayek Field.
“The outcome of the game shouldn’t of been the way it was,” Albert Lea VFW baseball coach Logan Kortan said. ” I mean 8-3, it was a lot closer game than that. Way too many errors.”
The Rockets scored early as they scored two runs in the first-inning to take an early 2-0 lead.
Albert Lea battled back in the bottom of the fourth-inning, when it scored three runs, two courtesy of an RBI single by Makoel Lunning to take a 3-2 lead.
Although, the lead wouldn’t last long for Albert Lea.
Rochester John Marshall responded right away in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of two Albert Lea errors, as the Rockets were led by a Cyr RBI double to take a 5-3 lead.
Rochester John Marshall didn’t let up as they scored three more runs over the final two innings to take the 8-3 win.
The Rockets took advantage of seven errors by Albert Lea that led to several unearned runs for Rochester John Marshall.
“One error happens,” Kortan said. “But then you have five, six, seven errors, runs add up.”
Tyler Woodside took the loss for Albert Lea.
Woodside went six innings and allowed six hits and struck out three.
“He threw strikes, I thought he did a good job,” Kortan said.
Austin Cook earned the win for John Marshall as he went three innings and allowed three hits and struck out one.
The Albert Lea VFW baseball team is off until next Wednesday when it plays Northfield at Hayek Field.
