Doris Hinkley, 93, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Doris Loraine Hinkley of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel in Albert Lea. The Rev. John Bromeland will officiate. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be held in the Freeborn Cemetery, Freeborn.
Doris died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Thorne Crest Retirement Center in Albert Lea. She was 93 years of age.
Doris was born Nov. 24, 1915, near Everly, Iowa, the daughter of Guy E. and Delia (Hopfe) Geesman. She graduated from Freeborn High School. On June 9, 1937, she was united in marriage to Floyd Hinkley.
Doris was a member of the Freeborn Congregational United Church of Christ and was active in the Church Circle, Women’s Fellowship and various other church committees. She had been employed for many years as a bookkeeper for Hinkley Chevrolet and the First State Bank of Freeborn. Doris had also been a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
Doris enjoyed cooking, sewing and flower gardening. Her special joy came spending time with family and the gatherings on Sundays for a meal.
Doris is survived by her husband Floyd of Albert Lea; children; JoAnn (Allan) Stensrud of Freeborn and Maxine (Dan) Long of Austin; grandchildren: Cari (Kevin) Stenzel, Tom (Jennifer) Stensrud, Kelly (Terry) Christen, Jodi (Mark) Eich and Jason (Shelly) Long; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister; Cleone Svenningsen of Albert Lea; and sister-in-law Barbara Geesman, also of Albert Lea.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bill Geesman; one grandson; and one great-great-grandson.
