Bernard Hoium, 88

Funeral services for Bernard O. Hoium, 88, of Albert Lea, will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at East Freeborn Lutheran Church. The Rev. Matt Griggs will officiate. Burial will be at East Freeborn Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Bernard died on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at Albert Lea Medical Center.
Bernard Orville Hoium was born on Dec. 19, 1920, in Bancroft township the son of Severt and Goodelia (Lovig) Hoium. He was baptized and confirmed at East Freeborn Lutheran Church where he has been a lifelong member. He attended rural school in Freeborn County. On June 9, 1946 Bernard was united in marriage to Marjorie Mickelson at East Freeborn. Bernard farmed with his father and took over the work of the family farm. Bernard loved farming and all that goes with tending the land. He was an active member of the church and enjoyed time spent with his family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; children: Del Hoium, Rollin and wife Nancy Hoium, Ross and wife Kris Hoium and Bill and wife Anita Hoium; grandchildren: Brian, Philip, Todd, Scott, Erin, Katelyn, Brett and Ryan Hoium; three step-grandchildren: Chris, Tim and Michael Flores; and three step-great-grandchildren: Tommy, Maria and Sophia; brothers-in-law: Bob and wife Louise Mickelson and Gerald and wife Darlene Mickelson; cousin, Richard Hoium; and several nieces and nephews.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Genevieve (LuVerne) Nesse and Carmen (Richard) Barnick.
