Ruth E. Almberg, 88, of Kiester, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Parkview Care Center in Wells. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester. The Rev. Dick Steffen will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Kiester.
Ruth was born Feb. 15, 1921, in rural Alden, the daughter of Henry and Barbara (Hochreiter) Ahnemann. She worked in a grocery store in Kenosha, Wis., prior to her marriage. On a very cold day, Jan. 17, 1954, she married Arnold Almberg in Kiester, and became a mother and a homemaker. Ruth was a Sunday School teacher, was active with the Quilters, Dorcas Circle, WELCA, and was a 4-H leader. She was in the Kiester Korner Club, and the Town and Country Birthday Club. She enjoyed Hardanger, gardening, cooking and baking, sewing, and visiting with her many family and friends.
Ruth Almberg is survived by her son, Curtis (Yeen Chong) Almberg of Mendota Heights; daughter, Janice (Jeff) Crider of Minneapolis; grandchildren: Ray Guessford of Mendota Heights and Amber (Jason) Berg of Minneapolis; brother, Norman (Claudia) Ahnemann of Forest City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; her parents; and her siblings: Elmer Ahnemann, Hazel Meyer, Ruby Ahneman, and Myrtle Niebuhr.
