Mildred Georgia Lackey was born “in a barn” on the family farm, Sept. 26, 1935, in Hollandale, the daughter of George and Aletha (Hendrickson) King. She attended school in Albert Lea through the 8th grade. She quit school to care for her ill father. Later she became employed by Musser’s in Wells, where she met the love of her life, Floyd Lackey. They were united in marriage on Aug. 22, 1956. She was a homemaker all of her life. She enjoyed handiwork, watching the Twins and Timberwolves, decorating for holidays and gathering at “Grandma’s.” Most of all, she enjoyed telling stories to her grandchildren and spending time with family. She loved animals and will be missed by her rescued cat Snoopy.
Millie is survived by her husband of 52 years, Floyd Lackey Sr. of Wells; five children: Floyd Jr. (Deb) Lackey of Wells, Lori (Merlyn) Swehla, Richard (Susan) Lackey, all of Alden, Aletha (Miquel) Ortis of Albert Lea, and Michelle (Mark) Lacher of Wells; grandchildren: Eric and Tyler Lackey of Wells, Tiffany Swehla of Crestview, Fla., Brady and Trae Swehla of Alden, Tasha (Nate) Atchley of Crestview, Fla., Stephanie (Lee) German of Bloomington, Jeff Lackey of Alden, Emily and Ricky of Albert Lea, and Ryan and Taylor Lacher of Wells; stepgrandchildren: Anna, Noemi, Maria, Michelle and Mike Jr.; stepgreat-grandchildren: Ryan and Josh German, Aurora, Elizabeth, Emilia, Guillermina, Landa, Leticia, Alicia, Gabriela, Briana, Mario, Juan, Lorena, Oliver and Elliot.
Tasha and Nate brought great joy to Grandma when they announced they were expecting a baby in September. Millie also had two children by heart and choice, Jagger Schultze and Troy Anderson.
She is preceded in death by her parents; several brothers and sisters; and one granddaughter, Christine Marie Lackey in infancy.
Grandma will be missed, but her memories and stories will live with us forever.
