Funeral services for Robert Milton Ferguson, 69, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Curtis Zieske will officiate. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Robert died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Robert Milton Ferguson was born on Oct. 13, 1939, to Kenith and Dorothy (Engen) Ferguson in Rochester. He attended school in Rochester and graduated from Rochester Central High School in 1958. After high school he worked with his dad at 7-Up Bottling and was there for 15 years. He then went to work for Old Dutch Foods as a route salesman for 20 plus years. Robert lived in Twin Lakes and Albert Lea for the past 25 years. On April 27, 1986 he was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Rice at Lunder Lutheran Church. Robert was a member of Lunder Lutheran Church and later transferred membership to Trinity Lutheran Church. Robert was a member of the Eagles Club 2258 for 43 years. He was Eagle of the Year in 1993. In 1993 he was also given the State President’s Citation of special recognition for Excellence of Participation and Contribution to the Progress of Aerie and Community. Bob was a trustee in 1997-98 and had gone through the chairs to become Eagle president. He was chosen as Eagle Aerie Grandfather of the Year in 2001-02. He was on two bowling leagues, enjoyed fishing vacations in northern Minnesota, and was active in volunteering and fundraising for the American Diabetes Association. Robert loved watching his grandchildren’s hockey games.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; daughters: Dorothy (Bob) Lathrup and Deanna Ferguson; sons: Glenn Ferguson and Garry Ferguson; daughter-in-law, Melanie Ferguson; step-children: Michael Sorenson, Brenda Sorenson, Sheryl Sorenson, Douglas Sorenson, Laurie (Jay) Jackson and Cindy Olsen; eight grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Ferguson; sister-in-law, Janice (Terry) Lorch; brother-in-law, Darryl (Betty) Rice; many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Ferguson; mother and father-in-law, Harry and Ann Rice; sister-in-law, Ruby Ferguson; and brother-in-law, Ron Rice.
Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
