Mary Seifert

Mary Katherine Seifert, 78, of Grand Rapids, passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at the Grand Village Nursing Home in Grand Rapids.
Mary was born April 7, 1930, in Durango, Colo., to Allen and Pearl Sawyer. Her family moved back to the home farm outside of Lakefield in 1931. She graduated from Lakefield High School in 1948. She attended Mankato Business College after graduation.
She married Linus “George” Seifert on June 25, 1953, in Mankato. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Albert Lea where she was a bookkeeping supervisor at the Medical & Surgical Center until her retirement in 1986.
After their retirement, Mary and George moved from Albert Lea to Belle Vista, Ark., where they lived for three years before moving to Grand Rapids.
Mary enjoyed spending time at their cabin. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading and doing needlework. She most enjoyed spending time with her grandsons.
Mary is survived by daughter, Kathryn of Ames, Iowa; son, Kenneth and wife Elizabeth (Betty) of Andover; three grandsons: Andrew of Winona, Adam and Samuel both of Andover; brother, Leon Sawyer of Glenwood; sister, Rhea Martin and husband Michael of Luck, Wis.; sister, Loretta Snipes and husband Rick of Las Vegas, Nev.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George Seifert, and her parents, Allen and Pearl Sawyer.
Visitation will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield, followed by a rosary. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Internment will be at St. Raphael’s Catholic Cemetery in Springfield.
Memorial contributions are being made to the American Diabetes Association.
