John Reid

The memorial service for John H.E. Reid will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Friends may visit with family one hour before the service at the church.
John died on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at the Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 78 years old.
John H.E. Reid was born in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 28, 1930. His parents were Robert and Eleanor (Cunning) Reid. He moved with his family to Albert Lea in 1935. He attended Northside Elementary and Albert Lea High School, graduating in 1949. On June 27, 1954, he married Jane Jensen at Main Street Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. John had started a career in retail working for J.C. Penney, then moved to Robbinsdale and Superior, Wis., to manage Kinney and Tradehome Shoe Stores. He also worked at Bisgaards Shoe Store in Albert Lea for years.
He was involved in different levels of industrial production with Streater and Queen Products. When the Bridon Cordage plant opened he was a shift supervisor. In 1981, he retired from the work force due to medical disability.
When attending Christ Episcopal Church in Albert Lea, he was a crucifer and Sunday school superintendent. John served on the church council, taught Sunday School, worked with youth groups and was always involved with a men’s Bible study. He enjoyed being in charge of Grace Seniors and Friends at First Lutheran.
He belonged to Golden K II for several years. Many years of camping from a tent to a motorhome were some of the family’s favorite memories.
John was child of God, a loving husband to Jane for 54 years; father to: Jean Sabre and husband Dr. Mark of Eden Prairie, Jeff Reid and wife Monica of St. Paul and Judy Reid and significant other Sean Ray of Minnetonka; grandpa to Lillian and Jacob of St. Paul; brother to Ethel Hilton of Chicago, Ill., and Luella Fenske and husband Del of Fridley; a special uncle to many nieces and nephews; as well as a constant in a circle of long time friends.
