Florence Munson

Florence “Flossy” Munson, 83, of Owatonna, died on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, in Traditions Assisted Living.
Florence was born the youngest of four children to Carl and Ida (Bakken) Halvorson on Dec. 25, 1925, in rural New Richland. Here she was raised and attended country school. In 1945 she met Wallace Munson, her lifelong friend and husband of 62 years. They were united in marriage on June 22, 1946, in Bath Township.
Together they owned and operated Wally’s Mobil Station in Geneva from 1947 to 1959. After selling the station, Florence worked at the Cottage Café in Geneva from 1960 to 1975. After Wally’s retirement they moved to Owatonna in September of 1988. Florence was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as usher for several years as well as on the weekly bulletin committee.
Florence enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and watching the Twins baseball games with her husband Wally.
Florence is survived by her husband, Wally of Owatonna; two daughters: LaVada Jensen and her dear friend John Benz, Kris (and Galen) McDonald, both of Owatonna; three grandchildren: Stacy Jensen, Laura Jensen and Kelly Jensen; three step grandchildren: Kelly (and Dan) Boomgarden, Keith McDonald, Karla (and Tom) Boone; three great- grandchildren: Taylor Reese and Jake and Abby Pirkl; eight step great- grandchildren: Destry, Brendan, Kiley Boomgarden, Madison and McKenna McDonald and Jonah, Noah and Mikala Boone. She is also survived by a sister, Vida Fuller; nieces; nephews; dearest friends, Don and Jennifer Petersburg; and the loving staff of Traditions.
The funeral service for Florence will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Owatonna, with the Rev. Julie Malone officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. There will be a private interment at the Geneva Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Southern Minnesota Alzheimer’s Association, Healthy Seniors of Steele County and Trinity Lutheran Church of Owatonna.
