Shirley Conn

Funeral services for Shirley I. Conn, 94, of Alden, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Alden United Methodist Church. The Rev. Cherie Daniel will officiate. Burial will be at the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.
Shirley died on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at Albert Lea Medical Center.
Shirley Ione Jenson Conn was born on Sept. 9, 1914, in Albert Lea Township, the daughter of James and Christine (Christenson) Jenson. Shirley attended and graduated from Albert Lea High School and graduated from Naeve Hospital School of Nursing. She was a private duty nurse and also worked for the Wells Municipal Hospital for 20 yrs. On July 10, 1937 she was united in marriage to Edmond Conn at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Shirley volunteered for the Freeborn County Blood Bank, and enjoyed working with flowers and gardening. She truly enjoyed the wonder of the great outdoors. She was a member of the Alden United Methodist Church, the UMW and the Naeve Alumni and Nurses Club.
Survivors include her children: daughter, Virginia Nagel, Glenville, and her children: Christine Studier and Cathi Voss; daughter, Judi Kalstad, Glenville, and children: Kellie and husband Gordy Thompson and Kari and husband Joel Busch; daughter, Linda and husband Don Bryson, Alden, and children: Teresa and husband Dave Malakowsky, Erik Bryson and Rebeca Bryson; son, James and wife Ruth Conn, Irene, S.D., and children: William Conn and Elizabeth Conn; great-grandchildren: Drew Studier and special friend Karissa Olson, Alex and wife Kari Studier, Christian Voss, Jessica and husband Jake Gentz, Eli Riggle and special friend Becky Hovendick, Jack and Sam Thompson, Cole and Ross Lenort, Emily, Amelia, Avery and Sophia Malakowsky. two great-grandchildren; Jace and Olivia Gentz and her sister Merlene Nelson, Faribault and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edmond; sisters: Stella, Anna, Bernice and Myra; brothers: Harry, Elmer, Ronald, Luman, Clive, Foster and James; son-in-law, Jack Kalstad; granddaughter, Carin Riggle and great-grandson in infancy, Kyle Malakowsky.
Memorials are preferred to Crossroads Community Hospice.
