Michael “Mike” Lee Deckard, 21, of Hudson, died suddenly Dec. 3, 2008, as a result of an auto accident in St. Joseph Township.
Mike was born on Nov. 15, 1987, in Albert Lea; the son of Ronnie and Debbie (Lyons) Deckard. He was baptized Dec. 13, 1987, in Hartland and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran in Hudson. He was raised in Hudson where he attended school. He enjoyed working with his dad and brother as a lead technician for Bastler Incorporated in Hudson. Together, they provided low voltage systems; such as satellite, security, or networking. On weekends, he loved cooking at the Willow River Inn in Burkhardt. Mike enjoyed being the life of the party. His smile and charming way frequently lit up a room. He loved the attention, always trying to make you smile and have a good time. To his friends, he lived life full of zest, many times a dare devil as when snowboarding. To his family, he was just a kid with a big heart. He loved helping grandma cook up their favorite dish, check out the newest in sub woofers or Hi Def with his brother, or just remind his dad and grandpa that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.
Mike will forever remain in the hearts of his parents: Ronnie and Debbie Deckard of Houlton; brother Daniel Deckard of Houlton; sister Jennifer Deckard of Houlton; grandparents: Ronnie and Jane Deckard of New Richland; Sondra Shuman of Brooklyn Park; aunts and uncles: Rick and Barb Lyons of Chaska, Bruce Lyons of Savannah, Ga., Bill and Keri Flahive of Austin, Jimmy and Jackie Hicks of Bloomer, Wis., Gary and Carrie Hoshaw of Circle Pines, Paul and Barb Deckard, Reedsburg, Wis., Maj. Troy and Susan Eggum of Fort Braggs, N.C.; as well as numerous cousins and friends.
Mike joins his grandfather Bruce Lyons Sr.; uncle Kenny Shuman; and cousin Trisha Flahive in the heavens above.
A celebration of life for Mike will be 3 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson with the Rev. Tim Booth officiating.
Active casketbearers are Paul Deckard, Gary Hoshaw, Bill Flahive, Jimmy Hick, Rick Lyons, Bill Flahive, and Zach Lyons with Major Troy Eggum as an honorary casketbearer. Interment will be private.
Visitation was on Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson and one hour prior to the service at the church. As an expression of sympathy, memorials may be made to Mike’s family.
