Elaine McGinnis

Funeral services for Elaine A. “Sis” McGinnis of Ellendale will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Ellendale. The Revs. Gary Liker and Ron Brey will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Geneva Cemetery.
Mrs. McGinnis died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at the New Richland Care Center. She was 93 years old.
Elaine was born March 25, 1915, in Berlin Township, Steele County, the daughter of Elwin and Stella (Peterson) Hemingway. She attended public school in Ellendale. She was united in marriage to L.M. (Mac) McGinnis on Feb. 26, 1934.
Elaine had lived in Albert Lea, Hollandale, Geneva and Northfield. She resided in Ellendale since 1983. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ellendale and was active in the Mary Sarah Circle and Bible Study. She had been employed for three years at the Owatonna Hospital and for Red Snapper Plastics until her retirement in 1981.
Elaine was involved with RSVP and was volunteer of the month in 1987. She enjoyed sewing, playing dominos and watching “Bonanza” on television.
She is survived by her children: Donna Smith of West Moline, Ill., Delores and her husband Kent Peterson of Albert Lea, Julie and her husband Scott Borg of Fairmont. There are nine grandchildren, numerous great and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended Hemingway family.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Merle; twin infant sons; grandsons: Randy Peterson, Ricky Smith and Terry Smith; and two brothers: Ralph and Warren Hemingway.
