Richard Anderson

Richard Harry Anderson, 87, of Austin died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at his home.
He was born Feb. 21, 1921, in Austin, to Leonard and Mary (Yaroshek) Anderson. He attended Austin Public Schools and service in the U.S. Air Force from Oct. 15, 1942, through Oct. 23, 1945. He was a staff sergeant and instrument specialist. He was stationed in Utah, Illinois, Texas, Arizona, Iowa and Kansas. From Feb. 27, 1944, through March 31, 1945, he was stationed in Bombay, India. During his enlistment he served under Brig. Gen. Wolf and Gen. LaMay. He was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Air Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Asiatic Ribbon, seven Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a retired employee of the Hormel Foods Corp. Richard was married to Faye Tucker LeBarron on Sept. 30, 1966, in Owatonna. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had served as treasurer of the Cedar River Archery Club and was a past president of the Cedar Valley Conservation Club.
Richard was a “rock hound” and enjoyed collecting stamps, coins and fossils as well as archery, hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and Robert and a twin brother in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia M. Toschak officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin with Olaf B. Damm Post 1216 VFW and Austin Post 91 American Legion in charge of military rites. Visitation will be at First United Methodist Church on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. The family prefers memorials. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers will be: Carter Rosenthal, David Majerus, Rod Wagner, Bob Wagner, Corey Borg and Jeff LeBarron.
Honorary bearers will be: Ricky Borg, Charlie LeBarron, Doug Ball, Rick Nerby and Tony Wagner.
Richard is survived by his wife: Faye Anderson, Austin; children: Cheryl Lynn Sund and Bob Borg, Austin, and Gene Richard Anderson, Rochester; stepchildren: Sandra and Tom Hentges, Austin, Dennis and Paulette LeBarron, Austin, and Lynda and David Majerus, Austin; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law: Keith and Clarice Anderson of New Hampshire, Bernar Anderson, Austin; sister: Donna Cochran, Albert Lea; and nieces and nephews.
