Doris Elaine Oleson was born May 25, 1917, in Dows, Iowa, the middle child of three girls. She married Evert Van Engelenburg on Oct. 4, 1944, in Hollandale, and had two children, Steve (Karen) of Johnstown, Colo., and Marlene (Ron) Danekas of Grand Junction, Colo., and two grandchildren, Matthew and Robert, both of Denver.
Doris’ favorite things included wintering in Arizona with her husband, the love of her life for 64 years; dancing at least two nights a week while in Grand Junction and many more in Arizona, wherever and whenever music could be found; canning anything that would fit into a glass jar; socializing with a wide and diverse circle of friends; and impressing others with her agility, energy and amazing stamina at the age of 91.
Doris was once again preparing for the trip south and finishing this year’s canning season when she was stricken with the brief but serious illness that took her life.
So many of her very close friends who gather in Arizona are scattered throughout several states. Per Doris’ request, no services are planned and the family asks that each of you who knew her privately grieve and then celebrate her life, her memory and what she meant to you personally in your own way.
The family also wishes to express sincere gratitude to the people in Doris’ life who have shown her kindness, compassion, understanding and friendship. She will be missed.
