Virgil Midlang

Virgil D. Midlang, 80, of Lake Mills, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at his home in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with the Rev. W. Paul Weeg officiating. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Otto Chose Post #235 of Lake Mills. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills.
Virgil Duane Midlang was born June 15, 1928, to John and Martha (Medlang) Midlang of rural Lake Mills.
He graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1947.
He enlisted in the United States Navy Seabees in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1954.
On Oct. 9, 1954, he was united in marriage to Elaine A. Jensen in Clarks Grove.
In 1991, he retired from Fleetguard after 24 years of service.
Virgil was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed sporting events and activities involving his children and grandchildren, followed the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and enjoyed remodeling projects and counted cross-stitching.
He is survived by five children: Steve Midlang of Davenport, Iowa, Sheryl (Jack) Stanley of Adel, Iowa, Brian Midlang of St. Joseph, Mich., Tim (Teresa) Midlang of Lake Mills and Carolyn (Alan) Schneberger of Marshalltown, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Matt (BJ) Stanley of Lorimor, Iowa, Jenny (Eric) Moore of Eden Prairie, Rachel Stanley of Adel, Iowa, Alicia Midlang of Ames, Iowa, Bradley and Christina Midlang of Lake Mills and Andrea Schneberger of Marshalltown, Iowa; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marcelle Anderson of Lake Mills and Darlene (Roger) Fosness of Waseca; a brother-in-law, Robert Wilson, of Des Moines, Iowa; and many other family and friends.
Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; his parents; one grandson, Scott Anthony Midlang; sister Lorraine Wilson; an infant sister; and brother-in-law Arden Anderson.
