Krist Anderson

Krist Anderson of rural Turlock, Calif., died at Hy-Lond Health Care Center, Modesto, Calif. on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, a few days after a fall that broke his hip and leg.
Krist was born Sept. 18, 1920, son of Kristen Anderson and Etta Ofstaas Anderson. His father had died in Canada and his mother came back to her parents’ farm at Rice Lake near Lake Mills, Iowa, for his birth. Krist graduated from high school in Albert Lea in 1938. He spent two years in the CCC Camp and then went to work for Lockheed Corp. in California. Later he served in the US Army Air Corps in Colorado and then returned to California to work at Norton AFB as a civilian. He eventually worked at McClellan AFB and lived at Sacramento.
Krist married Sue Hlubik in 1958. They were later divorced. He married Fay Ernestine Leabo in 1965. Krist and Ernie retired to a small ranch at Turlock, Calf. They loved country living. Krist particularly enjoyed tending a few head of cattle and they adopted many dogs over the years whom they loved like family members. They were also avid square dancers, a hobby that brought them much joy and many new friends.
Krist is survived by his step-son, Ron Hlubik; grandsons Tim and Kris; step-children Ed Leabo, Marlene Loggins and Larry Leabo; sisters Lorraine Kuntz of Helena, Mont., Barbara Varner of Hollandale, Mary Kron of Albert Lea; a niece, two nephews, and several great- and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ernie; parents; step-father, B.J. Kron; sister Helen Trim; one niece and one nephew.
Memorial service was at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine Calif., at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 25. Please share your memories at www.allenmortuary.com.
