Emily Osborne was born on March 25, 1907, in Sioux City, Iowa, and was adopted at 3 months of age by Frank and Alice Osborne of Albert Lea. Her mother died when she was 11 years old and her father died when she was 31 years old. She started running the family farm at 15 years of age and milked 18 cows, cared for six horses, and did field work. Emily’s brother drowned when she was 21 years old. After her father’s death, Emily’s trustee Otto Nelson bought her a Jeep to help with the farm work. She sold the cows when she was 49 years old, but continued to crop farm with Clarence Petersen, who eventually bought her 40 acres. When Emily was 74 years old she moved into Senior Court in Albert Lea and loved the time she spent there. Emily loved the farm, her animals and staying in touch with her family.
