Memorial services for M. Leona Scherb, 94, of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the chapel at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Todd Walsh will officiate. Interment will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Kiester at 9 a.m. prior to the service. The community is invited to visit with the family Wednesday, July 2, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the home of daughter, Jean, at 2014 Wilby Circle in Albert Lea.
Leona died Monday, June 30, 2008, at Albert Lea Medical Center.
Marvel Leona Scherb was born on Oct. 16, 1913, to Helmer and Olive (Larson) Wangsness in Emmons. She was baptized at the Emmons Lutheran Church by the Rev. Fjellstad. Leona was confirmed at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, N.M., by Rev. Ernest Walfram on March 26, 1926. She married Arthur Scherb on Jan. 17, 1933, in Kiester. Since 1940, Leona has resided in Albert Lea. She was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and Bible School for many years. She was a member of the GLCW, sewing group, and Altar Guild. Leona held all the offices in the Guild, directress two times, and treasurer two times. She was also a volunteer at Thornecrest Retirement Center for many years.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Aamodt of Albert Lea; granddaughters, Kathleen of Clearwater, Fla., and Louise Aamodt and her husband Jay Hall of Lakeville; great-grandsons, Skylar Aamodt and Landon Aamodt of Lakeville; nieces, Dianne Sailor, Barb Kirsch, and Paulette Calderon; nephew, David Sitzman; other survivors include JoAnn Holstad; great-niece and nephews; and Leona’s beloved canine companion, Folly.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur; sisters, Opal and Donna, and brother, Donald.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Grace Lutheran Altar Guild.
