Harold Hansing

Harold M. Hansing, 96, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Monday, May 26, 2008, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, at Sion Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, Iowa, with the Rev. Randy Baldwin officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Internment will take place at Sion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Harold Maursund Hansing was born on Nov. 1, 1911, in Thompson, Iowa, to Henry and Marie (Dahl) Hansing. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He was united in marriage to Edna Esther Hord on May 1, 1937, at the First Lutheran parsonage in Albert Lea. Edna passed away on Nov. 28, 1998.
During Harold’s professional life, he worked for the Federal Government in various electrical engineering and missile ballistics capacities. He helped design and develop missile tracking instruments, digital data systems and electronic testing equipment for guided missiles. At the height of his career, he worked for National Aeronautics and Space Administration in a variety of capacities.
To vouch for his direct contributions to the advancement of space exploration and technology, Harold was the proud owner of a commemorative medallion which is one of 65 that were made and awarded to scientists and engineers who were instrumental in the success of the Apollo and Saturn space programs. Because of Harold’s government work; he and his family were able to see much of America in their travels spending eight years in the ballistics and missile center in the Mojave Desert and several years in the United States Space Center in Huntsville, Ala. Their three sons all followed in their father’s footsteps, graduating as electrical engineers.
After moving to Lake Mills, Harold worked at Deluxe (Fleetguard) for ten years before retiring.
Harold’s hobbies were with his ham radio equipment and enjoyed the computer.
Harold is survived by his two sons, Adrian (Nancy) Hansing of Hampstead, N.C.; and Curtis (Sheryl) Hansing of Marietta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Brian Hansing; Richard Hansing, Chad Hansing, Shawn Seibert, James Seibert, Deidre Grossnickle; one sister, Valborg Berg of Fairbault; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Erickson of Lake Mills, Iowa; Wauneita (Marvin) Brindel of Albert Lea; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; son Marlyn; his parents, Henry and Marie; brother Earl Hansing; two sisters Irene Wilson and Henrietta Halvorson.
Harold will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.
