Beatrice “Betty” Ruth Olson, 102, of Kiester, died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Parkview Care Center in Wells. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. The Rev. Dick Steffen will officiate and burial will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Kiester. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements.
Betty Olson was born June 20, 1908, the daughter of Edward and Ingaborg (Skogerbo) Anderson in Rose Grove Township, Iowa. On Feb. 23, 1935, she was united in marriage to Chester Johnson in Forest City, Iowa. To this union five children were born. In 1982, Betty married Ivan Olson at Our Savior’s Lutheran in Kiester.
Betty was a high school graduate of Forest City, Iowa High School. She worked at the Forest City Golf Course, Mussers Produce, Kiester Food Market, Kiester Courier, and Banquet Foods. She was a long-time member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Circle and WELCA. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, fishing, reading and watching the Twins on TV. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble and spending time with her family. Other interests included going to the library with her special friends and staying active with the senior citizens.
Betty is survived by her children: Carroll Johnson (fiancée LeeAnn Lindeman), Donna Osmundson, Jeanette (Robert) Parriott, Dale (Cathy) Johnson, Zelda (Dale) Kinder; grandchildren: Sonja (Joe) Kalis, Wayne (Kathryn) Johnson, Mike Babcock, Lori (Jeff) Rauk, Kevin (Heidi) Babcock, David (Sheila) Babcock, Tim (Elizabeth) Osmundson, Paula Hawkins, Michelle (Rick) Swenson, Kari Jacobson; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
She was preceded in death by sisters: Nelda and Clara; husbands: Chester Johnson and Ivan Olson; grandson, Wade Haugen; son-in-law, Ed Osmundson.
