Government, more or less?

After a conversation with a Republican acquaintance, I found myself trying to understand the contradicting confusing dialogue.
Like the majority of his party, every chance he gets he belittles government. According to them, the government does no good. Their mantra screams, “Keep government out of our lives!”
But then they turn around and say:
Government, please make a law so a women cannot have a choice with her body.
Government, keep the death penalty. I say I am pro-life, but I am also pro-death.
Government, make a law so I can shoot someone if I am ever scared at the boat landing or while out camping or wherever.
Government, make a law that assures that no matter how much one person loves another, when it comes to marriage, don’t allow all couples the same rights and benefits.
Government, make a law that weakens workers unions so there are fewer good-paying jobs.
Government, make sure you don’t take much money from the super wealthy and make a law so they can buy elections with millions and millions of dollars.
Government, quit helping the poor! Even though I say I follow the Bible and its teachings, I despise government helping the less fortunate and encourage cuts at every turn.
Government, make a law to make it harder for the elderly, poor, disabled and college kids who move a lot to vote even though there is no proven problem.
But most of all, government, stay out of my life!
Anyone else confused?
