In an emotional announcement, Steve Sviggum told his fellow members of the University of Minnesota’s Board of Regents on Thursday that he would resign from the governing body.
At issue is a potential conflict of interest. Sviggum also serves as spokesman for the state Senate Republican Caucus. A board committee determined last week that Sviggum couldn’t hold both jobs without a conflict.
This wasn’t the first time Sviggum had dealt with conflict-of-interest accusations during his short tenure as a regent.
