Here are highlights in history for Aug. 13, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1987 — Reporter Tom Christensen explained in detail that Glenville Beach was really a “modern swimmin’ hole.”
1977 — The popularity of the Albert Lea Municipal Beach at the west end of Johnson Street had drastically dropped since the opening of the new municipal (concrete) pool on James Avenue in June.
1947 — An advertisement said A&P coffee in two pound bags was on sale for just 73 cents.
