Here are highlights in history for Aug. 17, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1990 — Lori Kay Larson, 19, rural Albert Lea, was crowned Miss Albert Lea by former Miss Albert Lea and current Miss Minnesota Brenda Armstrong.

1980 — The city’s farmers market was being held on Saturday mornings in the parking lot next to Morin Park and St. Mary Avenue between Main and William streets.

1970 — Minnesota Gov. Harold LeVander toured business and industrial sites in Albert Lea as part of a statewide tour.
