Century pulls away from Tigers in shootout

Rochester Century and the Albert Lea boys’ hockey team turned in a highly offensive game Tuesday at the City Arena in Albert Lea, but the Panthers showed they have a little more firepower than the Tigers in a wild 8-5 victory.
The difference for Century was a three-goal second period where it took a commanding 6-2 lead.
It was the only period Albert Lea didn’t score in, but the Tigers (4-6-1) made it interesting in the third period.
Albert Lea scored twice to begin the third and cut the lead to 6-4, but Drew Anderson responded for the Panthers like he had the entire game by scoring his fourth goal of the game to push it to a three-goal game.
Nick Raehsler scored 1 minute, 55 seconds later to extend Century’s lead to four goals and Casey Marka tallied a goal with less than a minute to play for the 8-5 final.
Albert Lea’s line of Eric Carlson, Levi Hacker and Dillon Stolt accounted for three of the five goals with each player recording a goal.
The Panthers outshot the Tigers 36-29 and it was the second period that hurt the most for Albert Lea.
“We kind of had some defensive lapses that hurt us in the second period,” said Tigers head coach Roy Nystrom.
Albert Lea played with out starting goaltender John Wrolson, who injured his hamstring against Virginia, senior defenseman Tyler Haaland, who has a shoulder injury and senior forward Cody Anderson who had his appendix removed Tuesday.
The Tigers play Mankato West Thursday at City Arena.
