State Auditor Rebecca Otto is announcing that she will seek a second term in the office.
The DFLer was first elected to the post in 2006 after serving one term as a state representative from Stillwater in 2003 and 2004. She rose to the statewide post by defeating incumbent Republican Pat Anderson, who is running for governor this year.
Several Republicans are vying for the party’s endorsement to face Otto next November. They are former St. Paul school board member Tom Conlon, Long Lake Mayor Randy Gilbert and veteran auditor’s office employee Jeffrey Wiita.
The state auditor is charged with overseeing more than $20 billion spent annually by Minnesota local governments, mainly through auditing their financial statements.
