Here are highlights in history for Aug. 31, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1986 — A column by Maude Koevenig explained that native plants were being threatened by imports. One example she cited was an import from Europe called purple loosestrife.

1976 — The Walters Jail was being restored for this community’s bicentennial celebration. This event had the title of “Wunderbarfest.”

1946 — The newly organized Albert Lea Harness and Saddle Club had about 25 members.
