Minn. politics heat up as temps cool

It’s long been a tradition in Minnesota politics that the general election campaign doesn’t start until after Labor Day.
By then the state fair and summer vacations are over, and the kids are back in school — and until this year the primary election didn’t even happen until after Labor Day.
That could be why this year’s August primary felt early, even though the voter turnout was a higher than expected 15 percent statewide.
Indeed, a new Minnesota Public Radio News/ Humphrey Institute poll seems to indicate that even with the earlier primary, Minnesotans’ internal calendars haven’t fully kicked into campaign season.
