Knight girls hold off Wolverines

A strong first half helped lead the Alden-Conger girls’ basketball team jump out to a big lead over Glenville-Emmons Monday in Alden and a 55-50 victory.

The Knights (5-3) got 22 points from seniors Katie Hallman and Kenzie Martin as Alden-Conger weathered a late comeback from the Wolverines.

The Knights led by as much as 17 at one point in the second half but Glenville-Emmons (5-4) was able to cut the lead to two with 29 seconds to play.

Hallman had a double-double with 10 rebounds and senior Allyssa Maras added six points and 16 rebounds for Alden-Conger.

Kalli VanRyswyk led the Wolverines with 14 points and nine rebounds while Kailey Davis and Reina Saltou each had 10 points, but Glenville-Emmons shot just 17 for 60 from the field and 13 of 20 from the free throw line.

The Wolverines play Spring Grove Tuesday in Glenville while the Knights play Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Thursday in Alden.
