AUSTIN — Authorities are considering whether a serious assault might be a more serious crime.

The Mower County Sheriff’s Office is waiting to release more information about a serious assault that allegedly took place 11 p.m. Sunday evening at the 24000 block of 534th Avenue in Mapleview.

According to Sheriff Terese Amazi, authorities believe the man who committed the alleged crime is in custody, and another has been hospitalized. Though Amazi nor St. Marys Hospital in Rochester did not release any names, Amazi said the injured man was not doing well as of Monday afternoon and may be hooked up to life support.

Amazi expects more detailed information on Tuesday.
