The fall brunch for the American Association of University Women is being held Saturday, Sept. 11, at 9 a.m., at the America’s Best Value Inn. The guest speaker for the event will be Susan DeVries. DeVries is a well-known music teacher at the Hollandale Christian School, and her talents as an artist were unveiled during December of 2008, when her family was featured on an episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” Working at a small private school has Susan wearing many hats. She teaches music in grades starting with kindergarten, going through the eighth grade. She also serves as the band director, first grade reading specialist and school bus driver. Her latest adventure was to have an art exhibit at the Art Center in Albert Lea. The showing featured rocks painted as rabbits, deer, tigers, raccoons, turtles, frogs and even fish in a pond. She also exhibited stepping stones she’s painted with butterfly designs. A meal of scrambled eggs, pancakes, suasage and coffee will be served at a cost of $10. Any women with a college degree are welcome to attend. Reservations are requested in advance and can be made by calling Deb Cooper at 507-377-2785. For those wanting membership information, please call Carol Frydenlund at 507-377-2785.
