Demo derby driver injured in explosion

A male demolition derby driver was injured Sunday evening after the car he was driving exploded at the Worth County Fair.
According to a Worth County Sheriff’s Office news release, the incident happened at about 7:45 p.m.
The man, whose name has not yet been released by authorities, was removed from the vehicle and sustained burns.
The amount of burns and the severity of the burns are not known at this time.
He was transported by Mercy Air Life to Mercy Medical Center and then taken to the University of Iowa Burn Treatment Center.
A Worth County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said the cause of the explosion has not been determined.
Assisting at the scene were the Northwood Volunteer Fire Company, the Worth County Sheriff’s Office, the Mason City Fire and Rescue, and Mercy Air Life.
