Here are highlights in history for Sept. 8, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1983 —The new method of using ridge tillage for growing corn and soybeans was demonstrated for 500 people on the Ron Knutson farm near Emmons.
1973 — Mary Ballhagen was presented with a diamond pin for her 300 hours of service as a candy striper volunteer at Naeve Hospital.
1963 — Gloria Zamora, daughter of Arthur Zamora of Albert Lea and his wife, was named the LULAC queen during the Mexican independence celebration at the armory.
