The New-Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva cross country teams traveled to Montgomery Thursday and saw strong showings from their top runners.

Abby Crabtree led the girls’ team, who collectively finished 27th, and grabbed 33rd place with a time of 16 minutes and 55 seconds.

Shantaya Olson finished 148th with a time of 19:33.7 and Emily Habeck finished 154th at 19:40.1, to round out the Panthers’ top three.

“Crabtree ran another great race,” NRHEG head coach Mike Weber said. “We hope to keep chipping away at her time, getting this even lower by the season’s end.”

The boys’ team did not place because of an incomplete score, but were led by ninth-grader T.J. Schiltz, who finished 92nd at 19:39.

Behind Schiltz, Jade Waltz finished 207th at 21:23

Dustin Burshem finished 218th at 23:46.

“TJ Schiltz is showing great improvement and is showing he can run with some of the better senior high runners,” Weber said. “Waltz was a strong second runner for our team and Burshem continues to improve.”
