Free-throw contest, comedy show take place this weekend

The annual Knights of Columbus Free-Throw Contest will be held Saturday at the Albert Lea Family Y, 2031 W. Main St. Registration starts at 10 a.m. and the contest begins at 10:30 a.m. It’s the best of 15 shots.
All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are welcome to enter.
Children need proof of age (based on Jan. 1, 2010), a parent’s permission slip and a willingness to have fun.
Winners will receive trophies and a chance to compete at district, regional and state contests.

Thursday, Jan. 31
Comedy Live will present a New Year’s Eve comedy show at America’s Best Value Inn at 8:30 p.m. Josh Elwood will play music before and after the show. Mike Polis will serve as master of ceremonies. Headliner is Dean Johnson and John Kunik will be the featured comic. Tickets are $15 in advance (available at the front desk of the hotel) or $20 at the door. To reserve tickets, call 373-6471.
Sunday, Jan. 3
The Albert Lea Girls’ Basketball program will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Moose Club, Cost is $6 per person. Chidlren ages 5 and younger eat free. The fundraiser benefits all girls’ basketball.
