Kathleen Pownell, 92, Albert Lea

Memorial services for Kathleen I. Pownell, 92, of Albert Lea will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Vano will officiate and interment will be at Fort Snelling Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Kathleen died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, after a brief stay at Good Samaritan Society.
She was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Pukwana, S.D., the daughter of Ernest and Christena (Schwiesow) Springer. She married Henry C. Pownell on June 6, 1943, in Devils Lake, N.D. She had been a resident of Albert Lea since 1949.
Kathleen had worked at Neave Hospital as a nurses aid for more then 20 years and retired in 1984 and served there as a volunteer after her retirement. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a life-long blood donor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; six brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include three sons: Henry (Lynn) of Glencoe, N.C., Charles, (Linda) of Albert Lea, Gary, special friend Patty, of Sarasota, Fla.; one sister, Amelia Weisner of Pukwana, S.D.; grandchildren: Christena Tasker (Jonah) of Albert Lea and Tracy Pownell of Crystal; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Ethian and Addison.
Friends may visit with the family one hour before the memorial service at Zion Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.
