Albert Lea police are advising business owners and homeowners alike to take extra caution to protect their properties after a series of burglaries over the weekend.

According to police, burglaries were reported at Rink Systems, 1103 Hershey St., just before 9 a.m. Friday and again just before 10 a.m. Monday. A large amount of brass fittings, brass brushings, brass stock and brass tubing was reported taken.

A burglary was also reported at the former Progress Castings building, 1521 E. Hawthorne St., at 10:56 a.m. Friday. Some new Craftsman toolboxes in the original boxes were taken from this location.

At 8:25 a.m. Monday, a burglary was reported at Rapid Lube, 2307 N. Bridge Ave. Missing from this business was a bank bag, which included an unidentified amount of cash and checks, according to police.

Albert Lea Police Lt. Jeff Strom said business owners should make sure their buildings are locked. They can also install motion sensor lighting over the doorways to protect from burglaries.

If people see anything suspicious — such as an automobile or person lingering by a building — they should not hesitate to call the police.

A burglary was also reported at 1307 Columbus Ave., Albert Lea, at 12:07 p.m. Sunday, where a shotgun was stolen from the garage.
