MINNEAPOLIS — The Gophers baseball program is saying a final goodbye to Siebert Field.
Deemed unusable for regular use years ago by the university, the 41-year-old facility will be the host for Tuesday night’s game between Minnesota and local Division III school St. Thomas.
The Gophers play their home games downtown at the Metrodome now. But they’re holding a party to celebrate their successful history. Alumni of the program will be allowed to take batting practice before the game. The daughter of former coach Dick Siebert will be there to throw out one of the ceremonial first pitches.
Former Gophers stars Paul Molitor and Terry Steinbach are among the alumni scheduled to attend.
Siebert compiled a 754-360-8 record in 31 years as head coach.
