Finish 5-0 at Algona-Garrigan
The Lake Mills volleyball team won five straight matches Saturday and finished first in the Algona-Garrigan volleyball tournament.
“Overall, we played very well,” Lake Mills head coach Jim Boehmer said. “We were very efficient in the front row.”
The Bulldogs (27-1) won three matches in pool play, beating Eagle Grove 21-6 and 21-8, Clarion 21-17 and 21-19, and Coulter-Alexander-Latimer 21-6 and 21-12.
“I was impressed with Clarion’s play and really thought Garrigan played well,” Boehmer said. “We were able to build early leads in most sets today, and when you are playing two out of three, it is vital you start strong and get that first set.”
The Bulldogs didn’t lose a set all day.
In the semifinals, Lake Mills dominated Garner-Hayfield, winning 25-8 and 25-3, before
beating Algona-Garrigan 25-12 and 25-21 for the championship.
For the tournament, Shelby Kuper led the Bulldogs with 26 kills. Josie Brackey had 20 kills while going 45-for-48 serving with 10 aces, and had 20 digs. Amanda Lampman had 21 kills to go along with 23 digs, and Morgan Fjelsted had 80 assists.
The Bulldogs take their undefeated conference record into their final North Iowa match Tuesday as they travel to Garner-Hayfield.
NIC tournament pool play begins Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
