Norman court hearing to go forward

The prosecutor bringing charges against former Albert Lea City Manager Jim Norman said Tuesday she has no intention at this point of dismissing any charges against Norman.
Assistant Waseca County Attorney Brenda Miller said she has not yet received the letter approved Monday by the Albert Lea City Council that formally requests that the charges pending against Norman be dismissed and not re-filed.
That means the arraignment hearing scheduled for 11 a.m. today in Freeborn County District Court regarding Norman’s case will proceed as scheduled, Miller said.
Norman faces criminal allegations that he misused the city-issued credit card for more than $2,300 in personal purchases. He has been charged with two felony counts and one gross misdemeanor in the case.
The Waseca County Attorney’s Office, which is handling the case for Freeborn County, filed the charges in the case after an investigation by the Waseca Police Department.
Norman officially resigned Monday as part of a separation agreement between him and the City Council.
The agreement called for three months of severance pay in addition to the council requesting that the criminal charges be dropped.
