Berhow earns Big Ten honor

Former Albert Lea High School wrestler Ben Berhow was named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week Tuesday after posting a 2-0 mark last week.
It’s the first time Berhow, a junior at the University of Minnesota, has received the honor.
Berhow, ranked 11th in the nation, defeated Nebraska’s Tucker Lane 9-7 in overtime with a takedown for the victory over Lane, who was ranked seventh in the nation. Last Sunday Berhow pinned Northern Colorado’s Justin Tuell to help Minnesota to a 41-3 victory.
The Gophers are ranked sixth in the nation and hold a 3-1 record in dual meets.
As part of its community wrestling days, Minnesota will a hold Ben Berhow and Albert Lea community wrestling day Jan. 3 when the Gophers face Iowa State at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis. Tickets are $4 with coupon or mention of Berhow’s name.
