Here are highlights in history for Sept. 30, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1990 — Six members of the national guard from Forest City, Iowa, were part of the activation of the 1133rd Transportation Company from Mason City, Iowa, for military duty.
1980 — The Freeborn County League of Women Voters would be sponsoring a meeting of city, county and state candidates for public offices on Oct. 27.
1970 —Frosty Westering, Lea College Athletic Director, told members of Albert Lea’s Kiwanis Club that the college athletic program was “hanging by a thread” and needed “stronger community support.”
