You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.
Thorne Crest Health Care Unit: Residents sometimes need to go to the clinic for appointments, and they need to be accompanied in the waiting room. You can meet them at Thorne Crest and ride with them on the van or meet them at the clinic and keep them company while they wait to see the doctor.
Volunteer Driver: Help seniors maintain their independence even if they are no longer able to drive to their appointments. Ride Services of Freeborn County can always use additional drivers — one day a week or several. Sometimes drivers are needed to go to Rochester or Minneapolis, but often it is just around town. Drivers are reimbursed for mileage.
Reading Partners: If you think you might be able to work one-on-one with a child to help improve reading skills, come to a meeting at Senior Resources on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 9 a.m. This is an orientation for new reading partners where you can ask questions and decide if this opportunity is for you. Call Stumme at 377-7433 for more information.
RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
