Caregivers conference Tues.

The Family Caregivers Network will be holding its fall conference on Tuesday, Oct. 19. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The theme is Aging with Strength.
Registration deadline for the event is Wednesday, Oct. 13. Call Senior Resources at 507-377-7433 or e-mail caregivers@seniorresourcesfc.com. The event is free. Expected audience includes caregivers, any interested community members and professionals who work with aging issues.
Starting at 10 a.m. there will be a program titled “Elder Hardiness and Resiliency” by Ted Bowman. During this session participants will be presented with stories, strategies and examples of strength in aging people.
There will be a lunch at 11:30 a.m. followed by a verbal dessert by Al Batt at 12:15. Following Al Batt will be Ted Bowman’s program titled “Reminiscing and Life Review: The Importance of Sharing Life Lessons.” This session will focus on the importance of engaging in life review and specific ways to gather stories from elders.
A respite room will be staffed by two volunteers for any caregivers who may need a quiet or safe place with activities and snacks or lunch for the person they routinely care for. Pre-registration will be needed for the respite room.
Family Caregivers Network is a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County and provides respite, support groups and educational services to area caregivers and their families. This event was made possible through funds from Albert Lea Medical Center.
