MINNEAPOLIS — Five people are in custody for obstructing the legal process — after they were arrested when they refused to leave a foreclosed home.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office says deputies went to 4044 Cedar Ave. S. on Wednesday to serve an eviction notice, but rescheduled the eviction when several people with Occupy Homes Minnesota refused to leave.
Deputies returned at 4 a.m. Friday and removed a door to get inside. Officials say they found 12 people inside — none of whom were the home’s residents.
Seven left without incident, but five had chained themselves together with items including chains, PVC pipe and iron pipe.
Officials say there were no injuries. But protesters say those arrested received minor injuries as deputies used jackhammers and electric saws to remove them.
